Leepwey Arts Council
Awarded Contract Winner
The Nez Perce Tribe Leepwey Arts Council awarded Sarah
Penney to be the contract artist for the historical murals at Lewis &
Clark Center of Arts and History.
The murals will be displayed in three rooms which consist of; a creation
story, water, and horse period of Nez Perce Tribe. These murals are an
expression of the coming of the Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery.
The Leepwey Arts Council would like to thank Sarah for an excellent
proposal describing her concept of the pictorial project that persuaded
the selection committee to award her the contract. NPTEC will have a final
review on all of Penney’s preliminary drawings before they are enlarged to
mural size.
The Leepwey Arts Council is eagerly awaiting the grand opening of the
exhibits, which will be displayed on June 1, 2003 during a meeting with
Governor Dirk Kempthorne and his committee.
The murals will be returned back to the Nez Perce Tribe in 2006. With
consideration of any more buildings being constructed, the committee may
consider the murals for permanent placement.
